Montana Mouthful is an independent, nonprofit literary magazine devoted to publishing short fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and visual artwork. Montana Mouthful began as a small group of writers, located in the glorious Treasure State, who decided to take the leap to help others publish their creative works. Montana Mouthful seeks material from established and emerging writers, poets, and visual artists from across the state, the country, and beyond.
Although we ask for just a mouthful of your finest prose, we are still interested in strong stories; your words, though few, must carry tension. Question our truths, provide a different perspective, and spark readers’ minds, all in the space of 2,000 words or less.
All work must be edited, proofread, and final prior to submission. Although this is a non-monetary engagement for the time being, we passionately promote our writers and artists in all that we do.
All submissions must be made through our Submittable page. Emailed submissions will not be accepted.
