Montana Mouthful seeks submissions for “A Blessing in Disguise” Issue
Montana Mouthful seeks short fiction/nonfiction, poetry, and artwork/photography for its next issue, themed “A Blessing in Disguise.”
Most of us are familiar with this phrase – when an apparent misfortune turns up positive results after a time. We look forward to receiving a variety of takes on this theme as it guarantees a happy ending of sorts, and we could all use some silver linings at this point, yes? Maybe you were late getting out of the house on your way to work and had to take a different commuter train, but in doing so, you met someone who would later become your life partner. Perhaps at school, you were forced to take a class that you thought you’d dislike, but later this class inspired a new hobby or career path. Etc. Blessings crop up in so many disguises, so use your imagination. Artists, we realize this might be a trickier theme than usual! We can’t wait to see how you capture this theme through visual imagery.
Submissions for this issue will be open from Monday, March 22 – Monday, May 3, 2021. We aim to publish “A Blessing in Disguise” issue on Monday, June 7, 2021. Please review our submissions guidelines carefully. We do not accept any prose over 2,000 words nor poetry over 1,000 words. For artists/photographers: please be sure your images are at least 300 ppi.
Submissions are read and judged blindly, so please DO NOT put your name on the piece itself.
While it’s stated on our Submittable page, on our Duotrope page, and on our website, we’d like to reiterate here: we are currently a non-paying market. If you’d like to help us raise more funds, we would appreciate it! Please check out our website and social media pages for ways and opportunities to do so. Thank you.

Good luck from the Montana Mouthful team!
